Perseverance Points

Perseverance Points, or PP, are points that can be used by the Player’s to have the Heroes overcome adversity.

Perseverance Points are rewarded to:

  • allow for diverse Heroes to contribute equally in the same story (i.e. A world-class archer could contribute equally when teaming up with a dimension hopping sorcerer).
  • encourage Players to indulge in the tropes of the Super Hero genre. (i.e. Heroes performing heroic acts, while struggling with their limitations and personal flaws).
  • have failures and road-blocks in the Narrative be opportunities for Players to choose when their Hero may climatically overcome the odds at a later time.

Earn Perseverance Points (PP)

It is up to all Players to watch for the earning triggers below, with the Narrator being the final arbiter of when a PP is rewarded or not.

  • By balancing the team. The Power Level Limit of the game equals the PL of the Hero with the highest PL. At the beginning of play your Hero’s PP are set to The PL Limit of the game less your hero’s PL if this would be greater than the PP currently listed.
  • Through failure. You earn one PP each time you make a Move and you get a result of 1-3 AND no PP was expended during the course of the Move.
  • By being thwarted by the narrative. You earn a PP any time a Hero has made a successful Roll  but the narrative doesn’t allow for the intended outcome.
  •  By being true to ones-self. You earn one PP, per motivation/foible per Scene, if you display your motivation/foible through action.
  • Through Accomplishment. Earn one PP per Scene per item accomplished. If you succeed at uncovering a mystery, defeating a notable threat or protecting the helpless from harm.
  • By knowing your limits. Note to the Narrator how using a Power would be used to overcome a dilemma or threat currently before you, but you are unable to due to a described limitation or the current state of The Narrative. You may earn 1 PP per Power, per scene. You may not earn the PP if you can overcome the dilemma using another aspect of your powers.
  • Through suffering. Whenever your hero suffers from their vulnerabilities earn 1pp per way that they suffer.
  • Through avoiding the Meta-game. You earn a PP whenever a Hero acts to their detriment on information the Player knows to not be true.

Expend Perseverance Points (PP)

  • 1 PP can be expended to tip the scales, once per Roll. After a Move is rolled you may choose to expend 1 PP to add one to the result of a single die.
  • PP can be expended to ensure success. Before a Move is rolled you may choose to expend any number of PP to add to the Attribute being rolled.
  • 1 PP can be expended to avoid receiving an IP, per IP. The Player must be able to describe how they avoid the harm being received to the satisfaction of the Narrator.
  • 5 PP can be expended to use your Power in ways not previously conceived and detailed or demonstrate a Power not previously detailed. You may detail the changes to your Powers on your Character Sheet, adding any Features to the Power as necessary. Adjust your PL accordingly.
  • The Defensive, Insubstantial, and Panacea Power Features require a Hero to expend PP as described in the Power section of the Hero Creation page.
